WHY

One of the key principles underpinning ASK’s approach, is motivation. When a person asks a question it is the one part of speech where motivation is at its highest. In Verbal Behaviour therapy (a therapy that helps teach children with Autism to talk), manding/ asking is key to the initiation of the whole process of learning to talk. Asking questions has also been shown to be a pivotal area, that when this is addressed as a target, improvements are also noted in several other areas of the child’s life that are affected by Autism’s triad of impairments. Asking questions involves interacting with others, the social aspect of life that is so important for all people.
