ABOUT US

Athene has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree giving her a broad understanding of principles relating to the human body and the environment. She recently received her Advanced Diploma in Nutrition adding to the understanding and knowledge she has gained at the various Biomedical conferences she has attended since 2006. With a Higher Diploma in Education Athene has taught a wide range of ages and abilities in several different settings, in three different countries giving her a good foundation in Education processes and policies. She is a trained ‘Incredible Years Training Course’ facilitator and has delivered several courses at Children’s Centre’s around Kent- through Fegans for Kent County Council. This has added invaluable experience when it comes to coaching parents.

 

Additional certification includes: SPELL trainer (a National Autistic Society framework) Person Centred Active Support trainer (obtained through the Tizard Centre); THRASS certification (Teaching Handwriting Reading And Spelling Skills- a unique approach by Alan Davies that has been shown to be highly effective). Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).

 

Athene has an MSc in ‘Analysis and Intervention In Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities’ from the Tizard Centre University of Kent and has been working in the field of autism since 2004. Most of her experience is with children, but she has worked on two research projects through the Tizard Centre involving adults with Autism. She also worked with adults during her work in 2008/9 at the East Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Adult learning Disability Challenging Needs service. She has her certification as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) Consultant since 2017. She currently works with people who are Neurodiverse regardless of whether or not they have a diagnosis.

 

Importantly, Athene is a mother of a boy and a girl with ASD, giving her insight into some of the joys and challenges parents face, as well as the different ways ASD presents itself in males and females.
